Ruffle Flower

So, it's clear that I LOVE fabric flowers! I have already posted two tutorials for two different kinds of flowers. Not to mention a few posts where I have added them to an accessory. I found this tutorial on Pinterest for a really beautiful flower and just had to try it!

Inspiration

Supplies
  • Long strip of fabric about 1 inch wide
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Needle
  • Scrap fabric for back
  • Pin or hair clip

The inspiration tutorial actually used wire ribbon but I wanted to use some cute striped fabric that I had.

First, cut a long strip of fabric that's about 1 inch wide. Mine was about 24 inches long. The more length you have the more volume your flower will have.

Fold your fabric in half width wise. Set your sewing machine to the longest stitch it can and sew a basting stitch down the entire length of your fabric. (Be sure not to back stitch on either side when you sew).

Next, take a piece of the string from where you sewed it and pull it. The fabric should start to ruffle up.

Now start wrapping your flower. Start by tightly rolling up one end. This will be the middle of the flower. Start adding loose wraps. Continue wrapping until you reach the end of the fabric. Fold the last part under the flower.

Take your needle and thread and start threading from one side of the flower to the other. Continue sewing it together until it feels secure all the way around. Then, sew your scrap fabric to the back and add your pin or hair clip.

Now you have another type of flower to add to your collection!
